Photon Assisted Cutting with fiber-, CO2-, or diode laser sources expands the potential of conventional
diamond turning. The laser radiation can either be transmitted directly to the workpiece just above the tool
or directed through the diamond to enter the immediate cutting zone. This hybrid
process is beneficial for cutting infrared materials, tungsten carbide or even ceramic components. The
Innolite ILPAC modules combine laser radiation with pyrometer temperature measurement for advanced thermal
control. The absorption of the laser radiation and the temperature distribution in the cutting zone depends on
the thermal conductivity of the material as well as the surface finish. To achieve constant conditions, the
Innolite active laser control is the key for stable hybrid ultra-precision processes.
